Getting out the vote

I know this may be a case of preaching to the choir, but if you're American and a registered voter, please exercise your right to vote tomorrow.  We won't have another chance to change things until 2008.

And just to remind you why it's so important, here's a little something passed on fromjenni_snake: Things You Have to Believe to be a Republican Today Jesus loves you and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton. Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion. Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony. The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. Resolutions against Iraq. A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation. The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay. If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex. A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money. Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. HMO's and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart. Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools. A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy. Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet. The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business. Bill Clinton spent 8 years trying to secretly kill Osama Bin Laden without taking the lives of thousands of innocent people and American soldiers. He is accused of doing nothing and being the bad guy. Bush has spent 5 years trying to openly kill Osama Bin Laden while taking the lives of thousands of innocent people and American Solders and invading two separate countries to do it, but he is the good guy. Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery. What Bill Clinton did in the 1960's is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80's is irrelevant. Feel free to pass this on. If you don't send it to at least 10 other people, we're likely to be stuck with more Republicans in '06 and '08.

As someone who lives in the district of one of the worst Congressmen in the US, tomorrow is a huge day for us here. William Jefferson, a black moderate democrat, who has been involved in a lot of corruption (found with 90,000 in his freezer post Katrina) has changed his tune. He's attacking his strongest candidate by saying she's in favor of gay marriage and abortion, two issue that he hassupported in the past. I know I'm not alone in New Orleans in saying that we want someone who doesn't lie to us or steal from us. Interstingly enough there's no serious GOP candidate in the race. Probably the most hotly contested election in the state isn't partisan in the least.

Hmmm. Don't you have an assignment of your own in that line to carry out? Or are you waiting until I come visit for that?

Oi, if I waited until you came to visit, that would be too late! But if you're offering, I'll take you up... don't know that I want to be sitting in French prison for the rest of my life! ;-)

I remember the $90,000 in the freezer story. Good luck tomorrow!

This text is great. It sums the situation perfectly.
I've been saying a lot of these things for years, but what can I do ?
I vote somewhere else.

Well, just the fact that you're a sympathetic listener/reader helps!
