*sigh*

Would my flist buy a used car on my recommendation? Apparently not. Apparently my powers of persuasion really suck, based on the dead silence that greeted my last post. (And yes, I also went over and checked dominiquelechic's lj and found the same three comments to her picture post that were there before I tried sending you guys over to take a look. So I guess it's a really good thing I don't have a job involving sales, isn't it?

In other news, I'm typing this entry at 7:15 a.m. on a holiday Monday (Columbus Day for you non-U.S. types). I went to bed at 2:00 a.m., telling myself I could sleep in because of said holiday (and also because it's the start of a week of vacation for me), and I didn't set the alarm. So what happens? I wake up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, as the saying goes, at 6:30 a.m. *headdesk*

*tries to look on the bright side* I've been saying I wanted to roll up my sleeves and tackle some housework (the newspapers and magazines have been at it again and are threatening to take over the entire living room), so I guess today is the day to do it. And then perhaps I'll treat myself to movie this afternoon. Okay. See you all later after a shower and some coffee. *blows kisses*

Note to Tavi: Jen was apparently in Paris partying Saturday night, which is why there was no answer when I tried calling her at 11:30 p.m. her time.

Good to know that someone else is suffering from the same papers papers everywhere problem that I am. October vacations are lovely. I have one coming up at the end of the month. And housework might finally get done then.

:D

I blame part of the multiplying papers problem on the nice shiny laptop. I used to read on my commute to and from work. Now I'm usually online....

Sorry you're disappointed that your last post didn't get the results you hoped for but, you know, we can't always be interested in the same things; just because it didn't really attract a lot of people - though you should take into account those who do read but don't comment for whatever reasons - it doesn't say anything about you. So don't feel bad?

And you mean you didn't sleep in, after all? Man, that sucks! I'd hate waking up so early when I don't have to. Hope you did go to the movies this afternoon - housework isn't such a cool way to spend a bank holiday...

Oh, I know. It's just that she puts so much time and effort into the posts that it would be nice for her if more people knew about them. If it's always just the same two or three people commenting, one of these days she may decide she has better things to do with her time and stop doing the posts altogether. So, you see, I tried to point people over there for selfish reasons as well.

That was my reaction, too, when I realised what time it was, and realised I was wide awake and wouldn't be going back to sleep even if I wanted to. But, hey, considering that there are mornings I'm up at 4:00 a.m. for a writing date, sleeping until 6:30 felt positively decadent, lol.

Hum, darling, not to belittle her work because I'm sure she put a lot into it but... it's political RPS. Not only that but French political RPS. Most people who might be slightly interested might also be very squicked at the notion. Honestly, I don't know many people who would be interested at all. I know there are some, but I'm afraid it's a small fandom, your fandom. It does not mean she hasn't done a good job, it just means that it's political RPS. Seriously, that kinda says it all. It's a bit like when my friend wrote Teletubbies fic. I wasn't exactly surprised when her fic didn't get many comments even though it was really quite brilliantly written.

See, I don't really look at the picture posts that way. She posts real photos of Dominique's public appearances and just writes amusing captions and amusing commentary. The same thing could be done with any public figure. If I ever get Bush up and running as a character in worldaffairs, he'd lend himself to that kind of post. Of course, he might never actually do one since he'd be following in the footsteps of a Frenchman, and what's worse, that particular Frenchman.

ETA: Gah! Between remembering LJ formatting, Gchat formatting, and the way we do emphasis (/emphasis/) when we're writing in MSN, it's a wonder I can even type.

Seriously, your first comment was fine, lol. I'm not going to like you less because there was maybe one typo in it. ;-p

And yes, I get that that's what you think but it's not how most people see what you and your friends do. She posted under a RPG character, she uses first person narrative, etc. It's RPS. If say... Aline was doing the same thing in her own personal lj, using third person narrative, it would be viewed as something entirely different. I know you think it's unfair, and maybe it is, but when she writes other posts with the same character having personal issues with suicide or sex or what not, then she can't expect people to take the picture posts any differently, unfortunately.

So basically, if you ever did the same thing with Bush as a character, posting in first person narrative? I know I wouldn't read it. If you were to do the same kind of post as yourself, in your own lj, in third person narrative? It'd be entirely different and I might even really enjoy it. Fair or unfair, it's a lot about perception. But like I said, it doesn't meant she didn't do an awesome job. Plus I'm only talking for myself, I'm sure there are a few other people out there who don't see it the same way. Me? I'm just really squicked, I can't help it, lol.

Fair enough, hon, and your second paragraph is a really good explanation. :-)

Unfortunately for dominiquelechic, I'm all with Jem on this matter. And the Salon de l'auto was the cause (remote cause) of having to spend 20 minutes comforting my devastated sister on the phone the other day, so... not really wanting to look at those pics.

But it doesn't mean I'm closed to all the stuff you rec, Karen (for instance, this delicious carrot cake !)

Hey, Rosie, fair enough. And I know kleio_caissa (the girl who plays Dominique) will eventually see this post and all the comments, so thanks for telling both of us the way you feel.

And, oh dear, no wonder the picture post (at least part of it) has no appeal for you! *hugs*

just a question: if he's part of a RPG, can we still comment on it? cause I loved the post, it was very well written and all, but I thought that only people from the RPG could comment on the thing. *scratches head*

I didn't actually do this because my friends refuse to let me play with sharp objects (they know me fairly well), but the list is getting thinner and... well, let's just say I'm getting really, really excited by all this! *bounces*

Yes, you can certainly comment. That's how I got started a year ago when the lj first came to my attention. I began by commenting just as myself, then gradually as I started talking to the characters I made my replies to them as a snarkier version of me. I used different icons to distinguish whether it was me or Swan replying. Finally, though, I set up an lj for the Swan persona (ayerayer) just to keep things simpler for me. Just so you know how it works, if you comment and the response is written in italics, that's the player responding, and not the character. Trust me though, with Dominique you'll never be in any doubt as to when it's the character talking to you, lol.

If you saw the post I did on Saturday (the subject line was "Shocked") about the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, there's a reply to it from dominiquelechic written all in italics. That's the girl who writes Dominique talking. She just uses one lj for both the RPG posts and her RL ones; the formatting and the writing style tell you who's writing.

There's no way I would buy a used car on your recommendation. Mostly, however, because I wouldn't buy a used car. Or any car. So don't despair. Will hopefully have internet before the end of the week (that is, if the person in charge has recovered from his mysterious 'family crisis'), and then I will only be annoying my roommates with how much I'm online. ^_^
