Everyone still here?

Sorry that I haven't been around to post or comment the last few days.  jenni_snake is here visiting, and we've been doing a lot of sightseeing.  (Jem, I know you'll relate to this, lol).  We've been looking at art and gardens (Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Huntington Library and Gardens, J. Paul Getty Museum (Brentwood), and the Getty Villa in Malibu).  Then there were days at the Aquarium of the Pacific, downtown L.A. (Chinatown and the Central Library), and the Westside (UCLA and Santa Monica (beach and shopping)).  And there's been the World Cup, and cooking, and swimming in the pool (well, Jenni swims and I sit at a table and go online) and chatting on MSN, and learning about some of the bells and whistles of my laptop, and a bit of writing here and there as well.  I know I missed a birthday (sorry, catheights), and Aline, I just saw your Corsica photos today, but I'm gradually catching up with everyone's news.

A bit of sad news of my own.  Chloe (my nineteen-year-old cat) had to be put to sleep this morning.  She'd been failing since Thursday (not eating and only driking a little water, not talking or purring, loss of motor coordination).  It was time to say goodbye, and she went very quietly in my arms at the vet's,  It's very good having company and not having to come home to an empty house until Wednesday.  This is the first time in 33 years that there's been no cat at all in the house.  It's a strange feeling.

All right, I'm beginning to nod off here, so I think I'll say à demain to you all.  And for those of you who have MSN and would like to chat sometime, I'm aswanargent@gmail.com

Thank you, Andi. She was a delight to live with, and I know how lucky I was to have her with me for such a long time. The relationship did indeed outlast many marriages. Btw, I've just caught up on about five days of LJ posts, so finally saw the news about your mother. At least she's taken a first step by setting a tentative date for a doctor visit. Good luck, and make sure you and your dad hold her to it.

We had a long talk with her, me and my father and sister, and she does seem willing to go. We'll have to wait and see, of course, but I'm feeling hopeful. My father is going to stop by the doctor's office tomorrow, to make an appointment for her, and to talk to him about what's been going on. My dad saw his own doctor today (he has arthritis), and the doctor said definitely take her to the doctor, she must go. So, school ends June 28, hopefully we'll get her in there on the 29th.
