A quick question for my francophone friends

How would you refer to a female French president?  "Mme le President" or "Mme la Presidente" (or some other way altogether)?  I've just been speculating on a scenario which has Villepin and Sarkozy fighting to a draw over the next 18 months, the French Right getting disgusted with both of them and letting someone like Le Pen slip in as the main candidate, which in turn leads to horrified French voters turning en masse to the Socialist candidate Ségolène Royal, who wins the presidency.  Thus my question.

Or maybe Chirac will just decide to run for a third term....

Vlad, please fire your translator. She speaks when she is not spoken to. It is a bad habit in an aide. You should not encourage it.

About me? No. About 50% of the French popular vote? Yes. He's at least dealing with the issues... what have you done lately (besides becoming PM...)?

It is not my fault zat you are a mere translator and have not bothered to take ze time to inform yourself of my many reforms and works in progress. And I zink you have far too much cheek for an aide, particularly one of Vlad's. You know what I would do if you were one of my aides? I would...well, actually I probably would have slept wiz you by now, I do tend to sleep wiz all of my female servants...

Perhaps you could inform me... seeing as I have a lot of translating to do. (And I probably would have enjoyed sleeping with you, too, but no matter how good you were, it still wouldn't mean I'd let you off the hook... figuratively speaking, of course.)

It's France. It's not considered harrassment. It's hardly considered sexual - more like contractual. Probably says there right in the contract.

It's actually not the first time I've heard that exact same thing from a Frenchman. ... Really...

Shall I ask my friend Aline (who teaches French law) what sort of penalties you might face should your aides or your "female servants" (yes, I mean just what you think I do by including both terms) decide to sue you for sexual harassment? Just be glad you're not an American politician!
