Christmas follow-up

rileyc :  Thank you for the lovely card and the good wishes.  My New Year's wish for you is that the kitties finally calm down a bit and let you (occasionally) enjoy some peace and quiet.

crazybutsound :  Guess what was in my mailbox last night?!?  Your package finally arrived.  :-)  The candles look a bit battered, but they smell wonderful, even through the wrapping.  I can just imagine how nice it will be when they're lit.  And more French music!  *beams*  I was going to bring my small CD player with me to the office today so I could listen to it while I work, but it was already raining this morning when I got up, so I decided to leave anything unnecessary at home.  I have no exciting plans tonight (New Year's Eve), so I may listen to it then.

greedy_dancer :  Remember that package I sent you in early October that never arrived?  Well, I don't know why, but the French postal service sent it back to me.  It was waiting on my doorstep when I got home yesterday.  There's something stamped across it, but it's too faint for me to read.  Question:  Are packages ever left at the door in France, or does the Post Office just leave you a delivery notice that you have to take in to collect the parcel?  If it's the latter, all I can think is that for some reason you never received the notice that a parcel was being held for you, and so after a certain period of time it was just returned to the sender.  Assuming what's inside survived intact, I'll try sending it to you again after the holiday madness is over.

Tavi :  I still don't know how to answer.  I was tossing and turning and dreaming about it last night, lol.  Hopefully he's busy doing "important historic work" and hasn't noticed the lack of response yet.  Soon though, I promise.

Finally, this picture of Kyiv *points to icon* was on the front of the Christmas card  jenni_snake sent me.  I asked her if she could turn it into an icon, and she did!  Isn't it beautiful?

Hey, you're around! I didn't think I'd see you (? sounds odd, doesn't it) today. And I heard this morning on CNN that the spigot was turned off. Said so!

I read the convos, and have much to say. Will post later (today if I get a chance, but it might not be while you're still online). I also want to say something about the discussion you and Tavi have been having re affirmative action, but I need to check my facts first. I think there's an element in what the U.S. has done that doesn't translate at all to a European model.
