Icon request

Is there anyone who can point me the way to Angela Merkel icons? Or would anyone be willing to make me one or two nice ones (headshots, say, or something from one of her public appearances)? That other German politician has been saying some rather unkind things lately, but without an icon as a calling card, Angela can't give as good as she gets speak up in her own defense. ;-)

Sorry to be unable to help but RL is boring enough and Angela unattractive enough... I'd rather stick to my imaginary world. My heroes aren't that deceptive and bitching and ugly. Not to say stupid.
Not to mention that sometimes politics make me want to throw up.

Hi! Not a problem.

Poor Angela! Everyone seems to hate her. But if I want to do more than just comment to posts in worldaffairs I have to play someone, and if you've ever looked, just about everyone else who's in the news these days has already been taken. I was offered Condi Rice, it's true, but I'd rather sit on the sidelines than take on the persona of anyone in the Bush Administration. There is one American who interests me and is available, but since he's only a Senator at the moment he wouldn't have any way to interact with the people actively playing right now. So I may try Angela on for size and see how I like the game. But tell me, if I'd picked Sarkozy (who wasn't available btw), would you have stopped talking to me? ;-)

Uh, does this mean you got involved in a more definite way then? I'll make you an icon if you want. Plain and simple ok for you? Because I don't think she'd inspire me much. She's a dreadful woman, lol.

Plain and simple is fine. :-)

I'm really starting to feel sorry for Angela. Okay, so she may not be the most charismatic person I've ever seen, and how anyone could let such a huge election lead slip away has me shaking my head, but she's certainly in the news and she's available as a character. It's about time the distaff side was heard from, I think.

If I don't take on a character, I can't post in worldaffairs; all I can do is comment. And while I'm having a wonderful time talking with Dominique, Vlad, and Gerd, my fingers are starting to itch to initiate things instead of just react. Maybe I can get the boys (at least Dominique and Gerd) to spend less time thinking about their hair, lol!

I've had a little bird (the girl who plays Putin) tell me out of character that Gerd is being played by a German, so this may be a question of *what am I getting myself into here*? Still, anything's better than playing Condi Rice (or anyone in the Bush Administration, for that matter).

You do realize that she's just as bad, though, right? I mean, she's right wing, christian, and a Bush lover pretty much. Summarizing here, but... oh, well, how anyone can have fun playing with such characters is completely beyond me, lol. But as long as you're having fun...

Well, there aren't a lot of choices. If you've ever looked, you'll have seen that just about every world leader or potential world leader has already been spoken for, even if they're not being actively played. I assume the person playing Condi relinquished her, which is why Dominique's alter ego suggested her to me. Sarkozy, regrettably, is already in process of being claimed by someone else. *ducks thrown tomatoes* That's probably a good thing; if I'd snagged him, I expect you and Aline and Morgared would all have immediately unfriended me, lol! This will just give me a chance to see how I like playing.

Well, you know... The fact that you don't want to use American politicians but prefer to play with European ones is a little... strange.
And I can't say that I'm really delighted when I get a glimpse of a post about Vladimir putine having BDSM sex with De Villepin. I don't think it's funny. I don't think that Poutine is much better than Staline or Hitler and the fact that people can play this game... As Jem said, it boggles the mind. To say the least.
Sep. 25th, 2005 11:44 am (UTC)
Okay. First, the only people actively playing right now are the voices for Putin, de Villepin, and Schröder. Koizumi only dropped in briefly to talk about his recent election victory. Because the posts are supposed to bear some relation to actual events and real interaction by the RL politicians (meetings, conferences attended, etc.), and all the U.S. politicians who would actually interact with European leaders have already been taken, taking on a European character is the only way to interact. I thought Angela would be more interesting than Berlusconi because in the first place she's a woman and by virtue of that fact alone she's going to have a different take on things, and secondly, the RL "who's going to blink first" situation over the German chancellorship has lots of potential for dialogue.

As for the RPS, it doesn't bother me because it's so completely tongue-in-cheek. The characters in this game may bear the names of RL politicians, and some of their foibles, but that's the extent of it. And also, everything is just implied. Contrast that with some of the dead serious RPS slash fics that were written involving the LOTR actors. I do see a difference.

Finally, I've got my eye on an American politician that I may claim just to hold him in reserve until the next Presidential primary season starts gearing up here in another year or so.

Okay, now, see, I find things like that float incredibly vulgar and not funny at all. Why try to have a serious debate when you can smear someone by telling a dirty joke or making an obscene gesture?
Sep. 25th, 2005 12:04 pm (UTC)
I do believe it goes a little beyond just being a dirty joke or an obscene gesture. It is indeed... "gras" as we would say, and not delicate or "witty", but it stems from a very serious issue most opposants have with Merkel, that she a) is pro-American a little too much to those who oppose the US foreign policies, b) that her pro-americanism might in the opinion of a lot of people not make Germany an ally of the US and give it any kind of position of power but turn it into a joke, something to sit on and even yes, shit on. At least that's how I understood it. Now, those who try to undermine her by criticizing her hair and her looks, yes, they're immature, but this is rather more elaborate and actually pertains to her political ideas and goals.

Also, explain to me how pretending two politicians are having BDSM sex and making them be silly about their hair is in any way wittier than this here float?

angela merkel icons
i'm as apolitical as they get, but i've been in a creative slump lately with icon making, so i did a google search for angela merkel and nabbed a couple of photos. (this is something i don't ordinarily do; i like to use photos offered with no restrictions and credit the photographers whose work i use when creating icons, but ... i don't suppose any copyright attorneys will chase me down over these.) i haven't read the other comments here to see if anyone's fulfilled your request, so i hope this is the right lady. :)

Re: angela merkel icons
Thank you! And yes indeed, this is the right lady. A French friend made two icons for me (one is almost identical with your first one, lol). I'm going to pass on the middle one (these icons are going to be used to accompany posts in the RPG community worldaffairs, and I can just imagine the snide things "Dominique de Villepin", "Vladimir Putin", and "Gerhard Schröder" would have to say about the pouty expression she's sporting in that photo), but I certainly will be using the third icon.

Btw, I just got finished adding all your colour base posts to Memories; it's an abundance of riches, and it's going to take me some time to decide just which of the icons I want to use. Of course, there's also the little problem that my 100 slots are filled and I already probably have at least that many more stored in folders waiting to be rotated in.
