I'm back

Today's the first day back at the office after two weeks spent showing the sights of Los Angeles (some of them, at least) to my very lovely houseguest crazybutsound.  I'm going to try to catch up on everyone's news, but it may take a bit of time as several urgent "need immediately if not sooner" projects seem to have popped up at work like toadstools while my back was turned.  *Sigh*  Isn't it October/November yet (more vacation days to be taken then when, hopefully, I'll get to play host to another member of my flist). She'll remain nameless for now (so no pressure), but she knows who she is. ;-)

Jem, I wish you could have stayed longer.  I hope you had a safe trip home and that you got a lot of reading done on the plane.  I think you'll find an icon project (for me) waiting for you courtesy of Sarah (she sent you an e-mail yesterday evening).  Btw, Sarah and I were looking on her computer for your last pictures (Saturday at the Getty and Sunday with Desi and Harley), but we couldn't find them.  Did you not transfer them there?  Let me know, because Sarah's worried that something might have happened to them.  Oh, and I was right -- Chloe (my cat for those of you who don't know) was looking all around the living room for you last night.

Re the computer: It means the visit to France may have to be postponed for a year. Of course, you could come visit me ....

It means the visit to France may have to be postponed for a year.

*cringe* Ouch, that hurts! But I guess this is the time when I'm all grown-up and unselfish and say go and treat yourself with the computer cause it'll be more helpful in the long haul, and anyway, France will still be there a year after that *g*

Of course, you could come visit me.

Financially speaking, I already have some projects that might have something to say about that lol But I'll hold you to that thought *g* It's just that you seem to enjoy French and France so much that I would love to have you here first *g*

Welcome back. WTF is it about a visit to France I never heard of (and yeah, can't you say I'm writing some Keller stuff just by my writing? I thought so)

There really wasn't anything to tell you, as it never got further than comments back and forth with castalie and crazybutsound. I mentioned in passing that I'd love to visit sometime (I think when you and Jem started doing fun things together), and they both encouraged me (Jem offered me a bed); once the cost of a hotel room was taken out of the equation, it seemed something that I might actually be able to afford sometime (as opposed to something I just dreamed about doing). So I was toying with the idea of coming to Lyon next year to visit you and Jem (and I guess I could see Rosie as well), with a day or two in Paris at the start or end of the trip to meet Mouse. But the last two weeks have shown that I have GOT to get a computer and internet access at home. But don't worry, I'm definitely going to turn up on your doorstep one day (just like I'm expecting you to turn up on mine soon). Btw, Jem is considering posting a photo of me with a black bar across my eyes (to hide my identity) and a whip in my hand ... don't believe it! I'm really a kind and considerate host, and if my guests want to sleep until noon, I let them. ;-)

I'm delighted to hear that your KellerMuse has put in an appearance again! Are you back to work on "12 Hours"? *asks hopefully*

VERY happy to be online again, and definitely budgeting for a computer at home!

Yippee! Glad you're back. Yes, you need a home PC (and I must still find a TV that works with my DVD player). Remember there's also South Africa to visit though...

Well, you certainly make it tempting with the postcards .... Thanks so much for sending them! Btw, did you ever see a film called Zulu starrring Stanley Baker and Michael Caine? It was about the defence of the British outpost at Rorke's Drift in (I think) January 1879. That's what your second postcard made me think of.

I'm impressed you know that about Rorke's Drift. I may have seen the film, but not recently! I'm also glad the postcards arrived safely and quite quickly.

I'm writing a strange couple of fics at the moment. The one is a lengthy and misguided sequel to "Settling the Bill" and the other is a sillyfic (as Rifka calls them) that I'm writing with princess_rifka and magickslash! Keep your fingers crossed that they or parts of them will be ready enough to be posted soon!

A joint effort ... you, Rifka, and magickslash ... the mind boggles. Can't wait to read it!

I used to watch Zulu every time it turned up on TV -- liked Stanley Baker and loved Michael Caine in it. I finally broke down and bought the video (now of course it's also available as a DVD).

*G* You have no idea!

I've been having tribulations with DVDs. I've been trying to purchase the Oz DVDs on line at Amazon, but have discovered that they are coded by region. The USA and Canada are region one. South Africa is in region two. And all the Oz DVDs seem to be limited to use in region one! Waah!! I shall have to see what DVD shops round here do about this region business. But I suspect the worst, because no shop in the country seems to stock Oz! :(

Your only recourse may be to buy a multiregion DVD player. That way you can play anything.

a multiregion DVD player

*sobs* The one I have was quite pricey. Maybe, just maybe, it is somehow multiregional...

Honestly, this whole region thing encourages piracy, instead of discouraging it!
