Why the Post Office is going broke

A few days ago I mentioned that I'd accidentally sent two cards to Canada and two the the U.K. with insufficient first-class postage. I expected the cards to be returned to me. Well, guess what? The Post Office delivered them all, and lost $0.34 in the process. Not a lot, true, but you'd think they'd notice little things like that....

i suspect it costs more to return it and they probably factor it it to the overall cost of postage--i think they still return the letters on internal because return costs are negligible in UK.I am guessing in the UK if thE French post office do not notice they let it go.????

Might it also have something to do with increased electronic messaging...?
