Where was my head in January when international postal rates went up? I presently have two birthday/Halloween cards winging their way to the U.K., and two Halloween cards on their way to Canada, and chances are none of them will arrive, due to insufficient postage.... *goes off sheepishly to stand in the corner* Good thing I found out about this before Christmas!

One of the ironies of the UK postal system is that they still do air mail and surface(boat/cheaper) mail when it comes to parcels but quite often they send the surface parcels by air.So if I have heavy post my xmas parcelS I post them surface knowing they might actually go by air but not knowing for sure. But they keep bringing the final posting day for guaranteed delivery by Xmas for surface mail forward and this year it was September 26th.I bought all the presents and sent them off surface on the 26th --and so far 4/5 parcels arrived in Canada within two weeks having actually been sent airmail --the 5th was actually sent surface and has yet to arrive.

I'm not ready to even think about Christmas in September, let alone buy gifts, wrap them, and send them on their merry way!

i think i just get use to doing it ahead of time because i have so many to post and have been doing it for 40 yeras but it use to be around the end of October beginning of November.I am also a bottom draw christmas shopper and hoard things i think people will like throughout the year. When i am on my travels or just shopping i see things and say oh thats a Peter present etc. But it does feel strange at times and come Christmas when everyone is running around most of my presents are done and dusted. Its a lifel long habit.

Apparently the Post Office didn't notice that none of the cards had sufficient postage, because they were all delivered. And, sigh, unless you waited a few days to post your comment, it means that the cards mailed to the U.K. arrived before the cards mailed to Canada (they all went out the same day).
