This is so wrong

Dark Shadows served up by Tim Burton and Johnny Depp at their campiest? I don't think so.

Show of hands, please, from those who remember the original.

:raises hand:

My doubts started churning as soon as I learned who was involved in the movie. The trailer confirmed my worst fears.

Did you ever the see the 1990s version with Ben Cross as Barnabas? I kind of liked that one and wished it could have continued.

Also, I love that icon! Why does the text seem so familiar?

Feel free to take the icon if you want it. I don't remember offhand where I got it, but I always give credit so the source will be out there. As to the text, it sounds like some sort of counting rhyme. See this Wikipedia article for more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_for_Sorrow_(nursery_rhyme)

I've seen two trailers for the movie. The short one was bad. The longer one was even worse. I can only imagine how the original show's cast members must feel....

Never saw the Ben Cross version. Was it an actual series?

Hmmm, maybe I remember the nursery rhyme from the Sandman comic listed in that entry. Very cool, though.

And thank you for letting me snag the icon!

It was, although it only ran for twelve episodes thanks to constant pre-empting for Desert Storm coverage. The episodes are online at YouTube here:

Dark Shadows, 1991

Dan Curtis was at the helm, so it adhered pretty close to the original in overall tone.

Okay, if Dan Curtis was involved, that speaks in its favor. Will check it out at YouTube. Thanks!

The icon wasn't mine, or made especially for me, so I'm more than happy to share. :-)

I do, and I'm very worried about this version. I saw the preview. *shudder*

Isn't it terrible? I love Johnny Depp (Captain Jack Sparrow!), and I like a lot of what Tim Burton does, but I wish they could have kept their hands off this one. I remember hurrying home from school every afternoon to watch it. Speaking of which, I wouldn't have thought you were old enough (were you even born then?) to see the original show (with Jonathan Frid as Barnabas, and David Selby as Quentin Collins). Are you possibly thinking about the version rileyc mentioned in her comment?

Actually, the original started a year before I was born -- I saw it(and not all of it) in syndication years ago, and liked it. I saw the Ben Cross series as well, and it was very good, too.
