Still among the living

Just a quick post to say that I'm still around. Work is crazy (it's that time of the year), so I'm checking my flist maybe once a week or so, which is the reason some of you are getting very belated comments to your posts. Other than that, my life is work or thinking about/planning for work, with the occasional film thrown in on a weekend for diversion, and book-reading limited to the three-hour daily commute on the bus. Newspapers are scanned at the end of the day when I get home (although the Weekend edition of the Financial Times and their occasional "How to Spend It" magazines are set aside and savoured), and the weekly and monthly periodicals are very much a hit-or-miss affair (they tend to just pile up in the corners, unread). The television goes days without being turned on, and some CDs I bought at Blackwell's during my November visit to Oxford are still in their shrink wrap packaging. (Of course, that's not as bad as the two Netflix DVDs which have been sitting on my desk, unopened and unwatched, since last October.) So, trust me, you aren't missing out on much.

Lights out now. It's past 12:30 a.m., and I'll be heading off to work in exactly six hours. Ciao!

You're busy indeed! Good luck surviving This Time Of The Year*smootches* Any summer vacation plans? don't mind me, I'm currently obsessed with summer vacations - sunshine! warm weather! no snow anywhere!

I actually do have summer vacation plans. I have a cousin in Oregon who'll be celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary around the Fourth of July holiday, and I'm planning to go up north for that. Then I'll be turning right around and heading off to England again; will be in Oxford in mid-July for Tavi's graduation. I'm hoping we can do some of the sightseeing that had to be postponed last time because of the early onset of winter weather, and I'm also thinking of maybe a few days based in London so that I'll have easier access to the sightseeing I want to do there. Everything's still very nebulous, though.

It's wonderful that you get to go to England again to finish your trip! In the meantime, enjoy the spring!

So far it's been pretty peaceful. Dad's meeting women on J Date, and staying the hell away from Ruth.

Glad to know you're still kicking! Me, too. Report cards nearly done... Have been symphonying, theatreing a bit, but mostly watch Oz. Too addictive! Good luck staying afloat!

Oz is what originally got me started with LJ. I never saw the show when it was on (didn't get HBO), but I started watching the DVDs when they were released, which got me involved in reading fanfic (the one and only series or film (apart from Due South) that managed that, but Due South fanfic came after I was already on LJ), and following some writers eventually led me here. I got sidetracked on the show before you came to visit, though; stopped watching right at the start of Season 5, I think. I should go back, start over from the beginning, and watch the whole thing through. And speaking of the-still-not-completely-watched Due South, maybe I could alternate the two shows for an interesting change of pace, lol.

Symphonying and theatreing sounds nice. I might be operaing later this month (Britten's "The Turn of the Screw"). Love Britten's operas....

Turn of the Screw! Don't believe I've heard it, but I read it, and I love a good ghost story! Britten is cool, as well. Had his Ceremony of Carols going over Christmas.

Going to try to make it through all of Oz before I start trawling for fanfic... I'm still holding out hope that there are some happy endings, not that everyone goes nucking futs...

I can't believe you haven't finished due South. Of course, I'm one to talk... it took me years, and it was only on the promise that old Ray came back for the finale. ;-)

I like your alternating marathon idea... Go for it! :-D
