Wrapping up 2009 (films)

I looked at my movie wrap up post from January 2009, and am amused to see how wrong my predictions were. (No more must-see-in-theatres movies for me; wait for them to come out on DVD and get them from Netflix, and nothing much to get excited about movie-wise, anyway.) As it turns out, I found quite a few films that I wanted to see, and didn't want to wait for the DVD version. Here's the 2009 list:

  1. Revolutionary Road
  2. Gran Torino
  3. Slumdog Millionaire
  4. Rachel Getting Married
  5. Frost / Nixon
  6. The Class (Entre les Murs)
  7. The International
  8. Harvard Beats Yale 29-29
  9. Knowing
  10. Two Lovers
  11. Valentino: The Last Emperor
  12. The Merry Gentleman
  13. The Girl from Monaco
  14. The Stoning of Soraya M.
  15. Death in Love
  16. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  17. Julie & Julia
  18. A Woman in Berlin (Eine Frau en Berlin)
  19. District 9
  20. An Education
  21. The Maid
  22. Coco Before Chanel
  23. The Blind Side
  24. The Road
  25. Invictus
  26. Precious
  27. The Young Victoria
  28. Up in the Air
  29. A Single Man

The two documentaries on the list (Harvard Beats Yale and Valentino) were thoroughly enjoyable, and are highly recommended. As for the other films, I had a couple of "Well, that's one I shouldn't have bothered with" reactions, but on the whole I was happy. And there are a couple of late-December releases that I just ran out of time to see (The White Ribbon and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus). They'll be at the top of my 2010 wrap up post. :-)
