Southern California's still windy, and still burning. Seven counties. 400 square miles burned. Almost half a million people evacuated in San Diego County alone. One fire started by downed power lines. One started accidentally by a construction crew. One started by an arsonist. No word yet on the cause of the other 15 or so fires. :-(

I leave on Thursday for a vacation in Calgary with jenni_snake.

Maybe things will be back to normal by the time I get home.

Hey, Karen. I was asking Jen about the fires today so I'm glad you're okay. Have a great trip. =DDD

The only fires close enough to where I live to see the smoke (but not close enough to smell it) have been the ones in Malibu (the downed power lines, and the closest in terms of distance) and then the one in Canyon Country (the construction crew). The big Orange County fire (arson) is down near my dad's place (80 miles away from me), and the San Diego fires are probably 200 miles away. The Lake Arrowhead fire is probably like the Santiago Canyon fire (the one near my dad) distance-wise.

This morning is the first time since Saturday morning that I haven't heard the windchimes on my patio. That tells me that the Santa Anas have died down, at least out here in the western part of the county. Hopefully other areas will be experiencing the same thing.

I'll give Jen a hug for you when I see her tomorrow.

I'm glad you're getting away for a little while, sweetie. I think a break from all of the real life trauma could do you a world of good. Have fun.

Are you anywhere near the fires? I really have no idea exactly where your town in California is located.
