2006 Oscars

It's been said that the best films of 2006 aren't to be found among the Best Picture nominees, but instead are in the  Foreign Language category.  Having seen two of the Foreign Language nominees so far (Pan's Labyrinth and The Lives of Others), I'd have to agree.  I think these two films are better than three of the films up for Best Picture tonight, and as good as the other two.  And after I see Days of Glory (Indigènes) this afternoon, I may add that to my ideal Best Picture nominee list.

well, I haven't seen the movie yet, but it's always great to have the opinion of someone who doesn't share the same cultural background, especially on such a subject. I would love it to be rewarded at the Academy Awards *crosses fingers*

I didn't make it to the film yesterday; will see it this coming Saturday instead.

well, now we know that it didn't get the award - what a shame... hey, which French movies do you like? or rather: what kind of French movies? (comedies? nouvelle vague? realist?)

Sorry for butting in but I just have to say this- watching the Oscars, or any of those award shows, is for me, the equivalent of opening my mouth and letting a few dozen people spit in it for an hour. Don't support those idiots and their sponsors, spend your time watching a good movie instead, or sort your sock drawer. ;)

I'm always curious when someone new comments to a post, so I went to take a look at your lj. I assume since the stats say you've made 98 journal entries but all I see is a "testing" post and a couple of visuals, that your lj is friends-locked. Since you don't list any interests or give any kind of personal information, it makes it hard for me to interact in any meaningful way. (No offence meant; just saying....)

As to awards shows, what did I say that made you think I watch them?

I am at work so cannot log in to LJ. That was certainly rude of me to barge in, and I definitely did not mean to offend you with my comment. If I did, I apologize. And no, I do not think you watched the awards, that was why I posted my comment, it was definitely not meant to provoke. My apologies.

No offence taken! But I'm still curious... is your journal friends-locked? I did see we have a mutual friend, which I assume is how you found my lj. :-)

I'm glad, the "spit" thing was perhaps not a wise choice of words in hindsight.
My LJ is 99% mundane RL related with lots of cursing so that's why it's locked. I'm infernally shy and private so I mostly lurk and pop in other LJs from time to time uninvited :)Rosie is such a sweetie, she friended me after I commented on her Oz fic.I'm afraid I haven't posted anything remotely interesting to her except a pic spam or two.
